About this culture

White worms are larger soil worms related to grindals, but they need a cool culture (roughly 10–18 °C) — a Cape winter shelf or a cheap wine fridge in summer. Once established they produce a dense, meaty harvest for killifish, growing fry, axolotls and conditioning adults. Harder to keep in a warm fish room than grindals; worth it when you want size without relying on blackworms. Out of stock for now — tap Notify me and we will WhatsApp you when we have a line ready.

Best for

  • Conditioning adult breeders
  • Killifish & growing fry
  • Axolotls & frogs
  • Anyone with a cool cupboard or wine fridge

How to culture it

  1. Use a shallow ventilated box with 3–5 cm damp (not wet) coir or soil mix. Keep it cool — white worms stop breeding and crash if the box sits warm.
  2. Add the starter with its medium. Feed under a glass/acrylic plate: a scrap of bread with a smear of plain yoghurt, or a pinch of oats / fish food.
  3. Harvest by rinsing worms off the plate. Feed only what disappears in a day or two — overfeeding causes mites and smell.
  4. In a Western Cape summer, a wine fridge or coolest indoor corner is the difference between a thriving culture and a dead one.

How to feed it

Rinse harvested worms in clean water and feed with tweezers or a pipette.

Rich conditioning food — a little goes a long way; leftover worms can foul a tank.
